Action RPGs like Path of Exile are known for a few things. Hordes of vicious creatures awaiting violent judgment, impressive worlds viewed from an isometric perspective, and loot. Lots and lots of loot.

In PoE specifically, the sheer amount of loot thrown at you can be overwhelming. What’s useful? What’s garbage? What am I even able to use? At launch, it was up to you to sort through all of this and kind of figure things out as you go, but thanks to some intrepid fans and savvy developers – there are now ways to add crucial quality of life improvements to the game.

In this case, we’re talking about the PoE NeverSink Loot Filter. Join us as we take a look at this feature to find out what it is, how to add it to your game, and how it can help your Path of Exile experience become that much better.

Let’s get started.

What is the NeverSink Loot Filter?

The NeverSink Loot Filter is exactly what it sounds like – a loot filter created by an excellent dev and jewel of the PoE community: NeverSink.

Once installed, this helpful feature helps you navigate the massive amount of loot you obtain in PoE by hiding low-value items and highlighting the best gear for use or trade. If you’re looking to sell or exchange your loot efficiently, check out our PoE trading guide to learn how the in-game economy works.

The best part is, the method of categorization used by this loot filter is based on economy data mining and it was created using the official PoE filter domain language – meaning it’s as accurate and as close to an official feature as you can get. In fact, NeverSink’s script for this feature is baked into the console versions of Path of Exile. Even the developers of the game trust it!

However, all of us elite PC PoE players have to do a little bit of legwork to get it running in our own games. We’re going to walk you through how to do that in just a minute, but first, let’s go in-depth with the script to outline its many features. All of this information comes straight from the official GitHub page for the NeverSink Loot Filter.

What Are the Main Features of the NeverSink Loot Filter?

NeverSink highlights the following features for their loot filter script:

  • Contains more than 500 rules that either highlight or hide items based on their usefulness and value.
  • Covers the complete PoE experience from leveling through the endgame, and dynamically adjusts based on your area level.
  • Highlights valuable equipment as well as equipment that is useful for leveling.
  • Highlights crafting gear and special basetypes for the endgame.
  • Tiers all currency, unique, scarab, fragment, divination card, and more than 20 other tier list types based on the current meta as well as prices in the league economy.
  • Marks noteworthy drops on the minimap and gives nearby items beams and sounds.
  • Color-codes values and item types for immediate visual identification.
  • Contains safety checks to not hide new or unknown items from new leagues on accident.
  • Updated and fine-tuned for more than 9 years.

There’s plenty more to love about the NeverSink Loot Filter, but this should give you a good idea of what makes it worth using.

How to Install the NeverSink Loot Filter?

NeverSink provides a couple of options when it comes to using the loot filter they created.

The first and most simple option is the Filter Ladder. This is a filter you can subscribe to on the official Path of Exile website, which gives it a number of perks. It’s dead easy to use (seriously, just click it), it auto-updates, and it comes pre-configured so you don’t have to fiddle with it. This is the best option for new or relatively inexperienced PoE players, and you can add it to your game using the following link: NeverSink Filter Ladder.

The second option is the FilterBlade – the fully-featured version of the loot filter that gives you way more control over how it appears in your game so you can fine-tune your experience.

To get the FilterBlade, you have a paid option and a free option. If you want a no-fuss installation that auto-updates and always perfectly matches the current state of the PoE economy, then you can purchase the FilterBlade Auto-Updater here. It has a small monthly cost of $3 per month, which helps NeverSink cover the server costs and support development. NeverSink also has a YouTube video that explains how it all works and how it will evolve over time, which you can check out here.

Note: The FilterBlade website does give you an option to select whether you want to use it with PoE1 or PoE2. However, the PoE2 version is not as up to speed as the one for the original game, as it updates to match the in-game economy once per week rather than every 4 hours. This is expected to change when the game leaves early access.

If you want the free version of FilterBlade and are okay with manually updating and being behind on the in-game economy (the free version is updated within 4-6 hours of a new league beginning), then you can follow these instructions:

  • Obtain the most recent filter script from either filterblade.xyz or the project’s GitHub.
  • Extract files with a program like 7zip.
  • Paste the .filter files into the following folder: %userprofile%/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile
  • In-game, hit the Escape button and go to Options, Game, Filters, and select one of the filters that are now available in the dropdown box.

With that, you’re ready to go!
