Since the release of Overwatch 2, Orisa solidified herself as perhaps the most reliable tank out there. Not only can she deal a formidable amount of damage, but she is also has a great level of survivability. Even providing some utility in the form of her ult-cancelling javelin.
Ultimately, Orisa is a great pick, with her only downfall being a lack of mobility.
Nothing in Overwatch even comes close to rivalling a fully powered-up Zarya… Any seasoned player knows to keep their distance. This damage threat is what makes Zarya such a powerful tank, letting her control plenty of space on the battlefield.
While she is not very mobile, her bubble provides a good amount of utility which can shift the team-fight. And I’m sure you already know how good her ultimate (graviton surge) is.
Somewhat of a controversial tank, Winston is the dive tank of choice given his excellent mobility. He can jump in, protect himself and jump out allowing him to prey on squishies, particularly healers with poor mobility.
Winston has also been boosted recently given that D.Va was nerfed, knocking her off the top spot as the best dive tank.
A-Tier
Overwatch’s most iconic tank, Reinhardt has almost always been able to fit in the meta. His blend of incredible utility (via his shield), a team-wipe ultimate (Earthshatter), and his formidable damage when up close make him a real threat on any point.
However, Reinhardt can struggle at range or against serious amounts of damage. Meaning he can be locked down, and forced to switch.
The latest tank in the roster, Hazard is a difficult hero to place. While he is through-and-through the top-picked tank at the highest tiers of play, players in the lower tiers really struggle to use him effectively, given his relative lack of defence and mobility compared to other tanks.
However, Hazard is an incredibly powerful offensive tank, with the unique ability to dish out damage while defending himself and anyone standing behind him. His additional utility such as Jagged Wall are also great disruptors.
While knocked off her top-spot as the best dive tank by Winston, D.Va is still a formidable tank. Her ability to get up in people’s faces and blast them down with her canons makes her a real threat. But her true power comes from defense matrix—acting both as a team shield and an eater of ultimates.
One of the most reliable tanks across ranks, Sigma’s kit makes him incredibly effective at most levels of play. Need some defense? Throw a shield. Cancel an ult? Throw a boulder. Is their team balled up? Ult.
Sigma is generally very strong, offering a solid blend of defense and offense at medium range. Making him more forgiving to play than many tanks.
B-Tier
While having the smallest frame among tanks, Ramattra has a big presence. Most notably, his damage potential at range is perhaps the best of all tanks. While his kit is incredibly extensive, allowing for many different strategies to emerge.
Ramattra is a powerful tank filled with utility, but can struggle at securing eliminations due to a relatively low damage ceiling, and an easy-to-avoid ultimate.
While Mauga was dominating lobbies a few seasons ago, he has now fallen down the ranks due to a bunch of changes resulting in him becoming one of the easiest tanks to kill in the game. Mauga’s miniguns can dish out a large amount of damage, and even sustain his health pool if played right, but Mauga’s oversized hitbox and lack of vertical mobility often make him a sitting duck who is easy to focus down.
C-Tier
If you play Doomfist, I’m sure you’re used to being asked to change… Jokes aside, Doomfist’s position as a tank has always been rather rocky. This stems from the fact that his kit was adapted from a damage hero, and thus provides very little defensive utility.
While strong Doomfist players show how much disruption his aggressive playstyle can cause, the urge to jump into the enemy can often leave Doomfist racking up the most deaths in a lobby… Which isn’t a good look for a tank.
One of the best brawler tanks in the game, Junker Queen can easily dish out extreme damage numbers and secure eliminations. The problem? She’s not a damage hero. Meaning that in Overwatch 2’s lobbies with only one tank, she can really struggle to provide any utility or support to her team.
D-Tier
Forever considered an off-tank, Roadhog’s kit makes him effective at picking off enemies and then running to hide. While his damage can be formidable when played right, ultimately Roadhog is one of the least scary tanks to run into. Mainly because he is so easy to focus down.
Ah Hammond. Wrecking Ball has always struggled ever since he was released all those years ago. The reason? He is a tank whose presence is rarely felt on the battlefield. In other words, it’s hard to play Ball in a way which causes meaningful disruption to the enemy team, and it’s very easy to play Ball in a way where nobody even notices you. Ultimately, making Ball the least reliable tank in the game.
