  • ~5 min

Each new season is a big deal in Fortnite. If you’ve been wondering when the new Fortnite season is coming out, you’re not alone. Along with the release comes new content, a fresh battle pass, and limited-time cosmetics. Thus, it’s worth equipping yourself with as much knowledge possible before the season starts, so you can prepare yourself for the journey ahead, whether you’re using a long-time account or exploring options like free Fortnite accounts.

This article outlines everything we know about Chapter 6 Season 3 thus far, including everything from when it releases to what cosmetics you’ll be able to get your hands on.

Let’s dive in.

Release Date and Duration

Everyone has one question: when does the new Fortnite season come out?

The current season (Chapter 6 Season 2) is set to end on May 2, 2025. You can see that from the in-game battle pass timer. Based on the usual release schedule, this means that Season 3 will release on May 2, or within a few days… perhaps landing on May 4.

That said, numerous leaks have already suggested a May 2 release date, suggesting the Season turn-over will be near-immediate from Season 2 to Season 3.

Leaks have also suggested that Season 3 may be one of the shortest in Fortnite history, lasting only 35 days, ending on June 8. While these leaks seem legitimate, it’s hard to be sure, as such a short season is unusual.

Will Chapter 6 Season 3 Be Star Wars-Themed?

With the new season dropping around Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you), we are already suspicious. But the multiple leaks from the likes of ShiinaBR and Guille_GAG (who have good track records) have strongly suggested that Season 3 will be a cross over with Disney’s Star Wars.

While this is yet to be officially confirmed, it’s not hard to imagine a Star Wars filled season. Especially with Epic Games’ long track record of collaborating with pop cultures biggest franchises, from Marvel to John Wick.

Where are the Star Wars Leaks From?

As with any community, Fortnite has a set of data miners and leakers, who have a track record of providing correct information way before Epic go public with it. This is where the current information about Season 3 being a Star Wars season comes from.

Leakers like X0X_LEAK, ShiinaBR, Guille_GAG and HYPEX have independently shared early insights all pointing in the same direction. While this could certainly could turn out to be false, we’re pretty confident that these leakers are onto something.

What to Expect in Chapter 6 Season 3

There are a number of things we can expect from the new season:

  • New Skins and Battle Pass Rewards: Probably rewarding you with heaps of Star Wars goodies, which might be even more appealing if you’re considering ways to grab cosmetics through methods like free V-Bucks.
  • Mythics & Loot Pool Changes: If we are to see a Star Wars season, we’re almost certain to see the return of Lightsabers, along with other themed special weapons and loot!
  • New Locations: If the theme is correct, the world is likely to have a bunch of locations changed to become Star Wars themed points of interest.
  • Other Changes: If we are traveling to a galaxy far, far away, we may find one-time gameplay elements come to Fortnite. From new ways to navigate the battlefield to event-specific happenings on the map. While we could spend all day speculating on what these could be, it’s probably best to just wait and see.

While much of Season 3 is still shrouded in obscurity, we are incredibly excited to see how it will turn out.

Could Season 3 Have a Different Theme?

Let’s be clear, Epic Games haven’t confirmed that Season 3 will be Star Wars themed just yet. That means that we cannot be certain that Lightsabers, Jedi and sci-fi are going to be the focus of Season 3.

Until Epic Games confirm, we must remain open-minded to see whether Season 3’s theme will be different, especially for players still brushing up on mechanics or checking out Fortnite tips for beginners.

How Will the Meta Change in Season 3?

While metas don’t shift often in Fortnite, a Star Wars theme may change that. If this theme does come to fruition there are a variety of options as to how the Meta may change.

  • A Melee Focus: If lightsabers do return to the game, there may be a a shift to a melee meta. After all, lightsabers are perhaps the ultimate melee weapon, nullifying the effect of ranged weapons and totally shredding opponents at close range.
  • Mobility Meta: If lightsabers are the new norm, we’re likely to see some changes to mobility for the upcoming season, as the game would need players to get into close range quickly. If there is a shift in mobility, this could lead to a significantly different playstyle taking hold.

When Will Epic Games Make an Official Announcement?

Epic Games like to keep their cards close to their chest until they are certain on what will come next. And while many of the assets and gameplay elements will already be far into development, Epic will carefully pick a moment to drop the information to ensure that they generate a snowball of hype that rolls through into the new season.

In other words, we shouldn’t expect Epic to announce the new season right away.

Yet, in the wake of the recent leaks, Epic may want to capitalise on the hype before the rumours either get out of hand or the hype dies down. That means we’re likely to hear something from Epic by mid-April. Leaving some time for the hype to snowball.

That said, given the huge nature of this potential cross-over, we can be sure that Epic is carefully planning their marketing campaign.

Can You Feel the Force?

Rumours of Chapter 6 Season 3 are already making waves. If the season is going to be filled with Star Wars content, it has the opportunity to be one of the best and most popular seasons in the game’s recent memory. Offering up not only new cosmetics, but the impetus for significant gameplay variation, bringing in new and returning players in the process.

And while nothing is official yet, we can all still get a little bit excited at the prospect as we wait for Epic’s official announcement.
